Dr. Haydée C. Brown
Born in Harlem, New York City, Dr. Haydée C. Brown attended the elite Hunter College High School and was simultaneously a merit fellowship student at The Ailey School. She went on to graduate with honors in Latin American Studies from Wellesley College, and complete her medical degree at New York University School of Medicine. As a medical student, Dr. Brown interned at the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries at the NYU Langone Medical Center, who serve as the orthopaedic consultants to The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and The Ailey School.
Dr. Brown is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Icahn Mount Sinai Medical Center. She completed her orthopaedic surgery training at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, ranked the #1 hospital for orthopaedic surgery by US News and World Report. To further concentrate on treating dancers and foot and ankle injuries, Dr. Brown remained at HSS for sub-specialty fellowship training in Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgery. As a fellow, she worked with Dr. William G. Hamilton, the orthopaedic consultant to both the New York City Ballet and the American Ballet Theater. Dr. Brown also assisted with the care of members of the NY Knicks, the former NJ Nets, NY Red Bulls, NY Giants, and several Broadway performers during her fellowship.
Dr. Brown is fluent in Spanish, as her family hails from Colon, Panama. Her work has been presented at regional and national orthopaedic surgery meetings. She is a former member of the Women’s Health Issues Advisory Board for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Brown partners with her patients to provide individualized care and help them achieve personal and professional goals. Her patients range from individuals who simply want to walk without pain, train for their first 5K race, or run their 20th marathon. She is proud to have several patients currently performing on the Broadway stage, and stages throughout the world.
Dr. Brown is passionate about her patients, and performs a thorough analysis of their ailment. She has a particular interest in the overall bone health of her patients, which is critical in treatment of any overuse injuries such as stress fractures. She coordinates a team of care to address the acute musculoskeletal issue, and the underlying causes.
